Carpinteria, CA: Community Highlights
Soldiers from the 1769 Gaspar de Portola Exhibition named this stunning coastal town “La Carpinteria” for the Chumash who fashioned canoes out of wooden planks on Mishopshno, a settlement on the California coast. The name stuck and the city incorporated in 1965.
Today, it is home to a population of 13,040 (as of the 2010 U.S. Census). Located southeast of the City of Santa Barbara, on the southern coast of Santa Barbara County, it encompasses just 7.3 square miles.
The Pacific Ocean borders Carpinteria to the south while state and city beaches span the length of city.
